As we’ve mentioned in a previous article, renovating and building takes some consideration – but it’s also your chance to make things perfect for you {no pressure!}.
We have some simple tips to add in some luxury touches that won’t break the bank but will elevate your home refresh from a “nice” to “WOW” status.
Design expert, and editor of Interiors Addict, Jen Bishop shares some appliance ideas, “there are so many ways to give your home and lifestyle a glow up with gas, that it’s really worth considering some of these things at the start of the renovation or new home build.”
What are the “things” Jen is referring to?
First up is the gas stovetop and oven, which featured in every kitchen in this year’s TV renovation sensation The Block. Jen says, “a gas cooktop is still the go for the luxury kitchen, especially in a more traditional home. Those range ovens are such a good-looking statement”.
And no classy outdoor entertaining area is complete without a built-in kitchen area. As Jen explains, “investing in an undercover, built-in outdoor kitchen or even just a BBQ connected to an unlimited gas supply (no more pesky bottles, thanks!) has become the norm.”
And so, whether you’re renovating to enjoy a better lifestyle or just to flip a property – indoor/outdoor living is a must have, and easy to achieve. Perhaps your budget doesn’t stretch to include the outdoor kitchen right now, plan ahead and have your gas and water installed ready to be connected while other major building work is happening – ensuring it will be easy to connect the BBQ and sink when you’re ready!
One design tip that can really lift your main living space to the next level: don’t make the TV the focal point. Jen backs this up, “Even in the warmer months when it’s not being used, a fireplace can be a beautiful feature of your living room.” And we couldn’t agree more – make your fireplace a gas fire and with the flick of a button you have instant cosy heat, hypnotic calming flames and none of the mess and fiddle!
A quick way to give a bathroom or kitchen a lift (without changing the whole space) is to update the tap wear. Good quality, beautifully crafted taps can add a touch of the latest in kitchen, and bathroom, trends - especially if the overall space is a relatively neutral canvas. The good news – replacing taps & showerheads that have seen better days is relatively inexpensive & straightforward.
And while your new in vogue taps and showerhead might bring a smile to your face as you flick them on (no drips, no loose parts or stiff to turn taps) – the real joy can be found in the endless hot water coming out. Your hot water system might not be obvious to the eye – it is however something you will enjoy every day, so we encourage you not to overlook updating the old hot water service with a new efficient gas continuous flow hot water system if you haven’t already.
