Builder Information – 7 Star Energy Rating
Under the National Construction Code 2022, Queensland will increase its minimum energy efficiency rating for new houses and units. From 1 May 2024, new houses and units will need:
- a 7-star rating for the building shell (roof, walls, windows, and floors) through energy efficiency features like good orientation and better insulation.
- an energy use allowance, taking into account the home’s major appliances and any on-site renewable energy such as a solar system.
Several factors determine these requirements, including building class, zone, and floor area.
Natural gas is an important part of Australia’s diverse energy mix. Today, 6.5 million homes rely on natural gas for everything from controllable cooking to instant hot water, cosy fireplaces to firing up the barbie.
The beauty is, with the right solar capacity, your customers can still enjoy all the benefits of natural gas in their new dream home!
Australian Gas Networks has developed a 7 Star Selection Tool to simplify the process of understanding energy allowances, allowing you to opt for natural gas complemented by solar to meet the 7-star energy rating while giving people access to the gas cooktops, hot water and BBQs they love.
